Micron Technology has issued an announcement that it will no longer produce new RAM modules under the Crucial Ballistix brand. Crucial Ballistix memory is designed for use in gaming computers and enthusiast systems. Such products have been offered to gamers since the advent of the DDR1 standard.

After the discontinuation of Ballistix memory modules, Micron Technology will focus on developing DDR5 solutions for client computers and servers. The Crucial brand will continue to produce NVMe SSDs and portable SSDs.
Observers point out that only chips from Micron Technology are used in Crucial’s RAM modules. However, they don’t offer as much overclocking potential as DDR5 products from SK hynix and Samsung. Probably this is partly the reason for the refusal to continue releasing gaming memory under the Ballistix brand. However, the company itself does not comment on this issue.
