Medieval action game Rustler has recouped development costs despite weak sales

Portal PolskiGamedev citing Games Operators, said that sales of the medieval action game Rustler from the Polish studio Jutsu Games allowed the game to recoup development costs.

As it became known, since the launch in Early Access time – a little more than six months – sales of Rustler reached only 25 thousand copies, which, nevertheless, allowed the game to pay off completely.

PolskiGamedev notes that Rustler’s budget did not exceed 1.95 million Polish zlotys (about $ 512 thousand), but 58% of this amount – 1.14 million zlotys (slightly less than $ 300 thousand) – was paid by Maximum Games.

Recall that Rustler offers gameplay in the spirit of the first GTA, “Historically imprecise” medieval entourage and “irrelevant” montypython humor. The kit was not appreciated by everyone: the rating of the project is Metacritic ranges from 60 to 68 out of 100%.

Rustler debuted on February 18 this year in Early Access on the digital Steam store. The full premiere took place on August 31st on PC (Steam), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, as well as Nintendo Switch, including retail.
