M**a completed the development of a smartwatch with two cameras – they should become a competitor to the Apple Watch

Meta* cancelled a project to develop a smart watch with numerous options for monitoring health indicators. Therefore, under the leadership of Mark Zuckerberg, the company changed its mind to create a device that can directly compete with the Apple Watch.

Last Friday, Meta staff* announced that work on the smartwatch project is being halted as part of a cost-cutting program that has led to structural changes at the company. Says Meta CTO* and Head of the Meta Department* Reality Labs by Andrew Bosworth, the smartwatch design team, will now build augmented reality glasses.

Rumors about Meta’s plans* create smart watch was first released in February 2021. According to sources, the wearable device will receive two cameras: a front camera for video calls and a main camera for taking photos and videos that could be shared on Facebook.*Instagram* and whatsapp. It has also been reported that the smartwatch does not need to be paired with a smartphone to function due to the support for cellular communication with eSIM.

However, in June this year, Bloomberg, citing an informed source, reported that Meta* stopped working on the project. As it turns out, the inside information was accurate, and the company has indeed abandoned plans to enter the smartwatch market.

According to Reuters, alongside the closure of the smartwatch project as part of Meta’s restructuring* also discontinues further work on Portal Smart Displays.
