Toyota Motor Corporation has committed to converting all Lexus models to electric traction by 2035, although given the RZ 450e crossover, the firstborn will be launched with some delay compared to its mass “relative” called the Toyota bZ4X. The parent company is already actively showing the appearance of future Lexus electric vehicles, promising the fastest model a range of up to 700 km and new types of batteries.
At least as explained electric Citing new statements from Toyota Motor, Lexus’ future sports coupe, which will deliver a 0 to 60 mph time of just over two seconds, will be the LFA’s visionary successor. The company only hypothetically speaks of the possibility of using solid-state electrolyte traction batteries, and in passing mentions the possible power reserve of the new flagship – more than 690 km on a single charge.
On the one hand, the electric car is intended to become a kind of “showcase” of Lexus’ technical achievements in the field of electric vehicles, so advanced traction batteries for mainstream models may not be immediately available. On the other hand, being tied to this type of battery suggests a fairly long wait for the announcement, as few manufacturers are willing to mass-produce solid-electrolyte batteries before the middle of this decade.
At the same time, the Lexus brand showed the appearance of three more electric vehicles that will go into series production in the foreseeable future. The sports coupe is accompanied by a four-door sedan with recessed handles, like Tesla or a number of other modern cars that deal with aerodynamics.
A pair of electric crossovers are perfectly capable of getting along with the platform shared with the Toyota bZ4X. One of them will have a more streamlined silhouette, the other will certainly emphasize practicality due to the body shape that will increase the usable interior volume in the trunk area. In the current generation of Lexus RX, the problem of increasing the displacement is solved by “stretching” the sloping crossover silhouette, which is not a very elegant solution in terms of layout.
Lexus doesn’t say when all of the electric vehicles mentioned will be available, with the exception of the RZ 450e crossover, which is scheduled to go into series production this spring. The current prototype of the crossover with a more spacious body is also ready, on which the head of the Lexus brand made a test drive. It is possible for both crossovers to coexist in the same model family.
