Larian Studios recently announced that the RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released this year not only for the PC but also for the PlayStation 5. This sparked a wave of questions, as studio head Swen Vincke had previously claimed that the project would not appear to be console-exclusive. It turned out that not everything is so simple and there are chances for a simultaneous release of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox.
Larian Studios has released a statement explaining that Baldur’s Gate 3 is not a PlayStation 5 console exclusive. The fact is that while porting the game to the Xbox Series X and S, the studio encountered a technical problem related to co-op mode on one screen. Studio officials stressed that there is no exclusive agreement preventing the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox. It is important for developers that every version of the game meets the internal high standards.
As such, Larian Studios will not announce the project on Xbox until these difficulties are resolved. Maybe it’s just the computing power of the Xbox Series S, which other developers, including 4A Games, Techland, Rocksteady Studios, Warner Bros. Montreal and Bossa Studios, have complained about.
Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released on August 31st for PC and PlayStation 5. The game is currently in Steam Early Access.
