Talking to Japanese pop star Nottie for the website Natalie Kojima admitted he dreamed up the story for Death Stranding 2 before the COVID-19 pandemic, but ended up completely revising the entire script as a result.

According to Kojima, the storyline in the original Death Stranding advocated an act of communication, but with the onset of the pandemic, digital connections (like teleworking) became more important.

“Now we are dealing with seclusion and separation, the world is undergoing a major shift. Unable to return to our pre-pandemic reality, we are being forced to reconsider the concept of “connection”.says Kojima.

The game developer added that the interpretation of threads in DS 2 is also evolving: Note that at the end of the teaser trailer it says, “Should we have met?” is the personification of what we’re trying to spell out in the sequel ».

Previously, Kojima had said that this will not be the case with Death Stranding 2 “the usual sequel”. Norman Reedus, Lea Seydoux, Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsuna were involved in the project.

Death Stranding 2 (working title) has only been confirmed for PS5 so far, although the first part is also in the works for PC. The new game is rumored to be released in 2024, but there is no official information about the release date yet.
