Kioxia introduces 2nd generation XL flash memory for enterprise storage

Kioxia announced the release of the second generation of XL flash memory based on proprietary BiCS FLASH 3D technology. The company points out that the new generation of XL FLASH memory has higher storage density, high performance and low latency.

In contrast to the first generation of XL Flash memory, which envisages the storage of only one bit of information per cell (SLC), the new generation of Kioxia XL Flash received the functionality of multi-level MLC cells, where it 2 gives information bits per cell.

The new memory has also increased the maximum number of concurrent blocks served, resulting in higher throughput. And the new generation of XL flash memory will also be available in 256 gigabit chips, which is twice the size of the previous generation of XL flash memory.

The new generation XL flash memory, like the previous one, is used in data center storage devices and enterprise-class drives. In the future, the possibility of using memory as part of CXL modules is also being considered.
