Jensen Huang promised to improve the availability of NVIDIA chips every day

At the quarterly reporting conference, NVIDIA representatives avoided answering routine questions about the impact of the cryptocurrency factor, but duly addressed the topic of combating component shortages. CEO Jensen Huang promised that the chip availability situation will improve quarter by quarter and that the company should make “very significant” progress in the second half of the year.

At the same time, without confidence in the improving component supply situation this spring, the forecast of an increase in sales to $8.1 billion in the current quarter would not have been possible, company officials added. Chief Financial Officer Colette Kress preferred to explain that fiscal first quarter revenue will grow primarily due to the server segment of the market, but the gaming segment will also perform better than usual for the season. So far, the picture has only been clouded by declining demand for components for games consoles, which is also seasonal.

Purchasing specialists, as Jensen Huang pointed out, have done an excellent job over the past year. Care planning is no longer done with just a quarter margin, the entire industry has switched to long-term planning and long-term contracts. While NVIDIA made just $2.54 billion in upfront payments for future shipments of products and services in 2020, that amount immediately jumped to $9 billion in 2021, demonstrating the company’s efforts to… Stabilize supply of scarce products.
