I’ve started testing “Gifts” – a new monetization tool

On Instagram* Internal testing has begun of a feature that will give bloggers new ways to monetize content – it’s called Gifts and a new tool is planned for the Reels short video section. Representative of the company that owns the social network Meta* confirmed the start of the audit of the resource TechCrunch.

The first to use a new instrument in August noticed Social network researcher Alessandro Paluzzi (Alessandro Paluzzi) – then he talked about the “Content Rating” project, and the ability to accept “gifts”, as he noted, is turned on in the settings by the bloggers themselves. Subscribers can send such “gifts” via a special button that appears at the bottom of the screen in the Reels section.

If the test is successful, it will be the second tool that allows Instagram users to do this* send small amounts of money to bloggers – back in October 2020, the social network introduced “badges” to monetize live broadcasts. Badges cost $0.99, $1.99, and $4.99, and when you purchase one, a heart icon will appear next to the giver’s name in the comments. Along with the “Gifts”, monetization will be available in both broadcasts and reels videos.

As testing of the new tool is still being conducted entirely in-house, it is still too early to say when the “gifts” will become publicly available, or if this will happen at all.

* It is included in the list of public associations and religious organizations for which the court made a final decision to liquidate or ban activities on the grounds provided for in Federal Law No. 114-FZ of July 25. 2002 “On Countering Extremist Activities”.
