“It’s Like Another Game”: Players were impressed by a new graphics mod that changes the lighting in Dark Souls 2

Dark Souls 2 was released almost 10 years ago, but it still manages to surprise you with the graphics. At least not with the Ganaboy enthusiasts light revamp mod.

The mod is called DS2LightingEngine SOFTS and it offers an improvement on the Dark Souls 2 engine with additional features including more realistic lighting, volumetric fog, updated shading and a new shading model.

Ganaboy has prepared its own lighting settings for each location, but if you want, you can adjust the environment and atmosphere settings through the menu accessed with the F1 key.

DS2LightingEngine has been tested on eight NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards (ranging from the GTX 1050 Ti and RX 550 to the RTX 3060 Ti and RX 5700 XT) at 1080p, 1440p and 2160p and shows stable in almost all cases (except the RX 550). Performance 60 fps.

While the mod is in the alpha phase, it has bugs and crashes as well as missing features. For example, it doesn’t display colored phantoms/invisible enemies and throws a black screen on launch (fixed by installing after the intro cinematic).

Users who have already tried DS2LightingEngine loved the modification (see video and screenshots above). “The mod is just crazy. For him, DS2 is like a different game.— Moizeba1 can’t get enough of it.

You can download DS2LightingEngine from the website Nexus Mods. The mod is only compatible with Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin Edition. To install, just transfer the contents of the archive to the Shaders folder (after making a backup copy of it).
