iPhone and iPad users experience crashes in Safari when typing certain combinations of letters in the search

For some time now, iPhone and iPad users have been reporting crashes in the Safari browser, which does not allow searching for words and phrases beginning with certain letter combinations. The app reportedly crashed after users tried to type the first three letters of certain words.

According to media reports, the problem affected users of different versions of iOS 16 as well as some iOS 15 users. The exact cause of the crash is still unknown, but some users report that the bug has already been fixed.

According to MacRumors, iOS 15.7.1, “iOS 16”, iOS 16.1, iOS 16.1.1, and iOS 16.2 beta devices have been known to crash. For example, the browser simply minimized after trying to type the word Walmart into the search box – immediately after the user typed “wal”.

It later turned out that disabling search suggestions could fix the problem. It is known that the problem affected Latin letter combinations – tar, bes, wal, wel, old, sta, pla and some others.

It’s believed to be a bug in the server portion of the service, and Apple has reportedly already fixed everything, even without releasing updates to its operating systems. Earlier it was reported that Safari browser audience exceeded 1 billion users.
