Remember that in January IO Interactive rebranded Hitman 3 as Hitman: World of Assassination (the new edition contains the main content of both Hitman and Hitman 2) and released a Freelancer roguelike mode for the game.

According to Elverdam, IO Interactive will continue to develop the World of Assassination trilogy and experiment with Hitman: “We have a great platform to experiment with the formula and what people expect from it.”.

Ultimately, the studio intends to return to the continuation of the main Hitman series. Apply in it all the experience gained during the experiments, and “Rebuild Sandbox”.

Fans will have to wait for the next numbered hitman. Standing in her way is Project 007, the working title of an IO Interactive game about the rise of famed secret agent James Bond.

“Right now the new big, big hitman is on a little hiatus because we’re writing another agent story, which is taking a lot of time.”— Elverdam explained the current prioritization.

Project 007 does not yet have a release date or even a final title. In parallel, IO Interactive is working on an online fantasy role-playing game (previously untitled) based on new intellectual property.
