Intel Xeon W-2400 workstation processors available in March, Xeon W-3400 models in April

In the middle of this month, Intel will present a new Expert 1S Workstation platform for workstations, writes the Wccftech portal. It will feature Xeon W-3400 and Xeon W-2400 processors, the W790 chipset for motherboards and motherboards with an LGA 4677 processor socket as early as February when their ratings come out.

Although the new processors will formally belong to the Xeon series, codenamed Sapphire Rapids, they can in a sense be called the successor to the forgotten Core X-class HEDT processor series, which Intel hasn’t updated for more than three years.

The characteristics of the Xeon W-3400 and Xeon W-2400 processors have long been known. The first will be able to offer 12 to 56 cores with support for 24 to 112 virtual threads and will work at frequencies up to 4.8 GHz. These processors get 30 to 105 MB of L3 cache and have a nominal TDP of 220 to 350 watts. At the same time, some models offer an unlocked multiplier that allows them to be overclocked manually. New items support the installation of up to 4TB of DDR5-4400 and DDR5-4800 eight-channel RAM, and also get support for 112 PCIe 5.0 lanes.

The Xeon W-2400 series will include models with 6 to 24 cores supporting 12 to 48 virtual threads. You get 15 to 45 MB of L3 cache and operate at up to 4.8 GHz. The nominal TDP of these models varies between 110 and 225 watts. Some of them also get an unlocked multiplier. These chips support the installation of up to 2TB of DDR5-4400 and DDR5-4800 quad-channel RAM and also offer support for 64 PCIe 5.0 lanes.

According to Wccftech, the new Intel Expert 1S workstation platform will be announced on February 15th. The company will lift the ban on publishing reviews of new chips on February 22nd. All Xeon W-2400 series processors and motherboards based on the W790 chipset will go on sale from March 8th to March 22nd. And the release of the Xeon W-3400 models will take place on April 12-26.
