Instead of optimization: Remnant 2 will have an official “potato” mode

The co-op role-playing game Remnant 2 was developed “Considering upscalers”, so at the beginning it did not differ in good optimization. Gunfire Games developers have found a solution to this problem, but not everyone will like it.

According to Ben Cureton, senior designer of Remnant 2, the game is coming soon will receive an update that, among other things, adds the so-called “Potato” mode.

“Potato” mode is the reduction of graphics to unforeseen values in order to improve performance on weak PCs. As a rule, this is done by enthusiasts, but in this case the novelty has official status.

In the comments below Cureton’s post, some fans complained that the developers of Remnant 2 would simply introduce a “potato” mode instead of full-fledged optimizations, while others were at least happy about such an improvement in the game experience.

  • PlayStation controller icons;
  • weapon disassembly function (allows the return of spent materials);
  • Dozens of enemy-related improvements;
  • Lots of fixes (weapons, mods, items, consumables, experience, co-op).

A more detailed list of changes that Cureton promised just before the patch release will be released. “Unless something goes wrong”should take place before the end of the current week, so literally from day to day.

Remnant 2 was released on July 25th on PC (Steam, EGS), PS5, Xbox Series X and S. Despite technical issues, the game has sold more than 1 million copies in less than a week since release.
