As a reminder, the latest NVIDIA drivers introduced support for csgos2.exe and cs2.exe applications. Underneath it is believed to be a port of the popular network shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to the Source 2 engine.

According to journalist Richard Lewis, the Source 2 version of CS:GO is already available “almost ready”, “Pretty sure” will be given the working title Counter-Strike 2, will be in “beta” by April 1st, and will support servers with a tickrate of 128.

Up until 2009, CS2 was reportedly Counter-Strike co-creator Minh Le's game, which later evolved into the shooter Tactical Intervention

According to McVicker, development of CS:GO on Source 2 has been going on for several years and has been delayed by a number of factors: the employment of staff in the VR shooter Half-Life: Alyx, the COVID-19 pandemic, changes in valve management.

McVicker elaborates that CS:GO on Source 2 is designed to feel like CS:GO and be compatible with all Steam Workshop content (safe skins) to expand the possibilities of future content creation for it.

Dataminer Maxim Poletaev, known under the pseudonym Gabe Follower, stressedthat CS:GO on Source 2 will not be a new game, Counter-Strike 2 or even a rebrand for CS:GO: “CS:GO Source 2 Only”.

From Words Poletaev, Valve has recruited American and European third party companies to test CS:GO on Source 2 (starting in early December). According to McVicker, “Beta” will start in the next 60 days (date: March 5).
