Inside the Razer Edge portable console was a small fan and vapor chamber

While gaming brand Razer hasn’t released a smartphone in years, the recently released Razer Edge Android portable console isn’t all that different from a typical modern mobile phone, as revealed by the PBKreviews YouTube channel. However, there are still some important exceptions, and they can take the device to another level.

Without the controller connected, the novelty really looks like a large smartphone, but without any cameras on the back. The device still has a camera – it’s on the front, on a long screen frame, and designed for use in landscape mode.

The 5G version of the Razer Edge features a SIM card slot that can hold a memory card at the same time. True, the device that took part in the dismantling is a model without a cellular connection, only with Wi-Fi 6E, so there is no support for 5G and other cellular technologies. However, versions with 5G operating in the mmWave band have already been sold by the American operator Verizon.

The Edge console received a cooling system with a graphite plate on the back of the plastic cover. As it turned out, the cooler has active cooling in the form of a small fan hidden from the user’s eyes behind a small lattice hole. This allows you to effectively cool the Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 chipset thanks to heatsinks, thermal grease and a layer of copper tape. On the other side is a vaporization chamber that allows you to literally emit heat through the display.

The set-top box comes with 6GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB UFS 3.1 ROM. It starts at $400 on Razer’s website for the non-5G version, the mobile option is only available on Verizon’s website (it’s 8GB instead of 6GB), and the US plan starts at $10 dollars per month.

According to PBKreviews, the model received a repairability score of 6.5 out of 10. According to experts, the main disadvantage is the limited availability of spare parts for repairs.
