“I hope Elder Scrolls 6 will be like this”: The artist showed how beautiful Skyrim can be on Unreal Engine 5

3D independent artist Leo Torres has posted on the forums Reddit and his YouTube channel video in which he recreated the port city of Dawnstar from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim RPG on the Unreal Engine 5 engine.

Torres captured the image of the capital of the White Coast in Unreal Engine 5 to practice working with snow and trying out charged lighting (Lumen technology) with complex geometry (Nanite).

The result far exceeded the artist’s expectations – at high graphics settings, the real-time scene produced 40-45 frames / s on the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card.

Most of the snow in the video (attached above) is fully 3D (not just textures) and was procedurally generated in Blender to blend in with the rest of the scene.

Torres used a mix of proprietary (models, textures), third-party, and pre-made materials (from Quixel Megascans): “Volume clouds and fog create a gloomy arctic atmosphere, especially in places where mountain peaks are covered”.

Will Unreal Engine 5 serve as the basis for the next installment in Bethesda’s fantasy RPG series? Unlikely, but dragon_stryker from Reddit countsthat graphically the game is in no way inferior to Torres’ creation: “I hope Elder Scrolls 6 will be like this”.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim recently celebrated its 11th anniversary – the cult role-playing game debuted on November 11, 2011 on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. The development of The Elder Scrolls VI is still in pre-production.
