Former Santa Monica Studio intern Jessica Mao saidthat her contribution to the development of God of War Ragnarok was deemed insufficient by studio management to earn her a place in the game’s credits. Possible minor spoilers.
During my time at the Santa Monica Studio (May through August 2021, according to the LinkedIn) Mao was involved in the music for two scenes from the opening section of the game – Freya chasing Kratos with Atreus and the fight against Thor.
In particular, she dealt with arranging, editing and mixing tracks. In order to increase the effect in the episode with Thor, the specialist decided to remove all musical instruments except for the drums and leave the vocals. This is the passage of which Mao is most proud.
Despite her contribution, Mao’s name was not included in the God of War Ragnarok credits as her contribution fell short of what was required. “minimum criterion”. The girl doesn’t yet know what kind of animal it is.
“Unfortunately, my name isn’t in the credits and can’t seem to be patched there… I was incredibly upset and discouraged by this news. Nobody wants to go through something like that.”Mao wrote.
God of War Ragnarok debuted simultaneously on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on November 9th. The new game finally revealed why the Spartan Kratos isn’t using the abilities from the first parts of the Scandinavian dilogy.
