In a new tradition, Huawei quietly introduced another advanced smartphone – this time it was a folding model. Mate X5. The device is distinguished by advanced technical characteristics, but the company again remained silent about the processor used here. It can be assumed that the sensational 7nm Kirin 9000S will also be used here, as in the Mate 60 Pro.

The external display of the Huawei Mate X5 has a diagonal of 6.4 inches and a resolution of 2504 × 1080 pixels. It is based on an LTPO OLED matrix with an adaptive refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz and a PWM dimming frequency of 1440 Hz, which makes the display flickering almost imperceptible. The diagonal of the internal folding display is 7.85 inches with a resolution of 2496 × 2224 pixels. It is also based on an LTPO-OLED matrix with a variable refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz and a PWM frequency of 1440 Hz. Both screens display 1.07 billion colors, fully cover the DCI-P3 color space and have a Kunlun protective coating.
In the main camera unit, there’s a 50-megapixel main model with an f/1.8 aperture, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera (f/2.2) and a 12-megapixel sensor with a telephoto lens (f/3.4). and optical stabilization. For selfies and video calls, there are 8-megapixel cameras inside and out – optical and AI image stabilization are supported, as well as face recognition (2D), which also works when wearing a medical mask.
An interesting feature of the Mate X5 is a completely new antenna design that is supposed to provide improved signal reception. Huawei’s Lingxi antenna is equipped with an artificial intelligence algorithm that selects the optimal network to provide the best connection. The antennas around the body of the device also feature dual-mode tuning technology for even better signal quality.
HarmonyOS 4 is used as the software platform. The power source is a 5060 mAh battery – 88 W wired charging and 50 W wireless charging are supported. The USB Type-C port supports USB 3.1 Gen 1 interface. There is also water protection according to the IPX8 standard.
The Huawei Mate. In the first version, the mass of the device is 243 g, in the second – 245 g. The dimensions of the device are 156.9 × 72.4 × 11.08 mm when folded and 156.9 × 141.5 × 5.3 mm when unfolded.
The Huawei Mate X5 is offered in configurations with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of flash memory, as well as 16/512 and 16/1024 GB of storage. Prices have not yet been determined.
