Honor presented new products at IFA 2023, the main presentation of which was the international version of the Magic V2 flexible-screen smartphone. The novelty is distinguished by a very thin case: when it is unfolded, the thickness of the device is only 4.7 mm, when it is open it is 9.9 mm. This is significantly smaller than 6.1 or 13.4 mm on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5.
The Magic V2 features an advanced hinge mechanism with a simplified one-piece design and a 3D-printed titanium alloy cover. The smartphone did not receive full protection against moisture, but Honor announced a special coating of all internal elements, protecting them from splashes.
Despite the thin body, the new Honor received a larger battery than the Galaxy Z Fold5. The Magic V2 smartphone received a silicon-carbon battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh, while the competitor from Samsung has a battery with only 4400 mAh. It supports 66W wired charging, but there’s no wireless charging. We immediately notice that the Magic V2 weighs only 231 grams, which is less than 240 grams for the iPhone 14 Pro Max and significantly less than 262 grams for the Galaxy Z Fold5.
Magic V2 is equipped with a 7.92-inch LTPO OLED main screen with a resolution of 2156×2344 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The display complies with the HDR 10+ specification and can offer a brightness of up to 1600 cd/m²2 in automatic mode and supports pen input. The PWM dimming works at a frequency of 3840 Hz, which ensures that there is no flickering.
The outer screen has a diagonal of 6.43 inches. It’s a 10-bit OLED panel with a resolution of 2376 x 1060 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. PWM brightness control is the same as the main display and peak brightness is boosted to an impressive 2500 cd/m²2 in automatic mode. The external screen also supports pen input, which is useful for taking notes on the go.
Magic V2 is based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 single-chip platform with a main Cortex-X3 core overclocked to 3.36 GHz. RAM is 12 or 16 GB, and the capacity of the built-in drive is 256, 512 or 1024 GB. The Magic V2 uses the software shell MagicOS 7.2 based on Android 13.
The smartphone is equipped with a 50-megapixel main camera with f/1.9 aperture and optical image stabilization, a 20-megapixel camera with a telephoto lens with 2.5x optical zoom and optical image stabilization, and a 50-megapixel wide-angle module with f /2 f-stop ,0. The 16-megapixel front camera is housed in a small recess on the outer screen.
