Honor launched the Honor V Purse foldable smartphone in China, which was presented as a concept device at the IFA 2023 in Berlin in early September. At that time, many expected that the device would not come to market, but would simply demonstrate Honor’s technological capabilities. However, the company’s plans have changed, and the Honor V wallet is now available for pre-order in a limited edition starting at 6,000 yuan ($820), which is quite affordable for a flexible device.

Honor V Purse is the thinnest foldable smartphone yet. When folded, its dimensions are 156.5 × 74.7 × 8.6 mm, and when open it is 156.5 × 135.6 × 4.3 mm. The device weighs 214g which is less than the Honor Magic V2 which weighs 231g.
The Honor V Purse has an outward-folding display with a 7.71-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 2348×2016 pixels and an aspect ratio of 10.5:9. When folded, the diagonal of the active part of the display is 6.45 inches, the resolution is 2348 × 1088 pixels, the refresh rate is 90 Hz and the aspect ratio is 19.4:9. The display supports 10-bit color depth with coverage of the DCI-P3 color space and a peak brightness of 1600 cd/m2 and PWM brightness control with a frequency of 2160 Hz.
The smartphone is based on the Snapdragon 778G chip, which is a bit surprising for such a smartphone since it is a mid-range processor and is also quite old. The chip is complemented by 16 GB of RAM and a 256 or 512 GB flash drive. The device runs proprietary MagicOS 7.2 based on Android 13.
The Honor V Purse’s cameras are arranged like a normal smartphone. On the back there is a 50-megapixel main module with f/1.9 aperture and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, which coincide with the back half of the display when the smartphone is closed. There is also an 8 MP front camera for selfies and video calls. The 4500mAh battery supports 35W charging via the USB-C port.
The price of the Honor V Purse with 16GB of RAM and 256 flash storage is 6,000 yuan (US$820), the price of the model with 16/512GB of storage is 6,600 yuan (US$905). Honor hasn’t specified whether it will offer cases for the V Purse with straps that allow you to carry the smartphone like a handbag. When presenting at IFA 2023, the company placed particular emphasis on the design of the smartphone and the extravagant way of carrying it.
