Viewers of the Hogwarts Legacy demonstration met Victor Rookwood, a dark wizard who formed an alliance with the goblin Ranrok and joined the rebellion. Although not much is known about the character, fans believe Victor may be related to the Death Eaters, a group of dark wizards led by Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter series of books and films. The events of Hogwarts Legacy take place a hundred years before the events of the original works.

The surname attracted fans. August Rookwood was a secret agent for the Ministry of Magic and took part in the first wizarding war that took place in the mythology of the Harry Potter universe in the 1980s. He was first mentioned in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire when Durmstrang’s director Igor Karkaroff was put on trial.

Karkaroff called Augustus Rookwood a Death Eater and said that he provided information to Voldemort while he was working at the Ministry of Magic. Rookwood later appeared in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

It is unlikely that the surname is a mere coincidence. And since the game takes place just a few generations before August’s birth, he’s most likely a descendant of this new villain. It is noteworthy that Hogwarts Legacy has already introduced a character familiar to fans – Nearly Headless Nick. Maybe we’ll see someone else. For example in connection with Fantastic Beasts, which takes place 50 years after the events of the game.

Hogwarts Legacy will be released later this year on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.
