Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer in conversation with Kinda funny Xcast commented on the negative reaction from players and critics to Redfall, as well as fan concerns regarding Starfield.
Recall that Arkane Austin’s (Dishonored, Prey) open-world cooperative shooter scored 57-62% on Metacritic. According to Spencer, he is disappointed by this reception and upset with himself.
“I know these games are $70 and I take full responsibility for releasing a game that should be great. We’ve let a lot of people down with this release, but we’re not giving up. That’s the essence of creativity.”said Spencer.
The head of Xbox emphasized that for him “There’s nothing worse than letting the Xbox community down”. In Redfall’s case, the company will investigate what went wrong: “It’s clearly a matter of quality and execution that we can change.”.
Spencer also assured that Xbox, Bethesda and Arkane Austin will continue to improve Redfall. The team is listening to feedback and is currently working on implementing 60fps on Xbox consoles – work is progressing according to plan.
As for Starfield, the space RPG from Bethesda Game Studios was luckier than Redfall. When Bethesda joined Microsoft, the game was at an earlier stage of development and the Xbox “worked better” in terms of supporting the team.
Starfield is expected to release September 6th on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), Xbox Series X and S, and Game Pass (PC and Xbox). Already on June 11th, Bethesda will be holding a Starfield Direct presentation that will tell you more about the game and show you a lot of gameplay.
