The American publisher and developer Riot Games in its official microblog last week informedthat was hacked and now shared the details chop.
As revealed by analysis conducted over the past weekend, the attackers hijacked the League of Legends source code, Teamfight Tactics, and an outdated anti-cheat platform.
Today, January 24th, Riot Games received an email from hackers demanding a ransom – the studio will not pay the attackers, but will outline the possible consequences of doing so.
First, the release of the source code may lead to an increase in cheats (Riot Games is already preparing patches). Second, the illegally obtained source code contains a number of experimental features.
“We hope that some modes and other changes will get to the players one day. Most of the content is in the prototype phase and there is no guarantee it will ever be released.”— said Riot Games.
Riot teams and outside consultants continue to analyze the attack and test the studio’s internal systems. The company is also working with law enforcement to investigate the hack and track down the perpetrators.
Riot Games assures that the players’ data and their personal information were not affected. The studio plans to restore all necessary mechanics by the end of the week and return to the standard patch release schedule.
