GoPro is preparing to launch a new panoramic action camera from the MAX series for shooting spherical videos. According to Nick Woodman, CEO of the company, the camera is already in development and will meet user expectations. This is an important milestone as the company last updated the MAX line in October 2019.

When trying to get more information from the company about the upcoming release, including the date when the camera will go on sale, a company representative chose not to comment on the situation. Many enthusiasts and photo experts hope that the camera will be released before the ski season starts.
It is worth noting that GoPro was one of the pioneers in the panoramic camera market. In 2017, the $699 Fusion model was introduced. Previously, the company launched the GoPro Omni VR solution, which is a frame for mounting 6 action cameras. But despite the innovation, the early models were far from perfect. While GoPro MAX made panoramic videos more accessible as users no longer had to manually “stitch” videos in special software.
Meanwhile, Insta360 has been actively developing the panoramic camera market by releasing modular cameras and mobile software for easy video viewing and editing. Its products come with features like selfie mode and dynamic transitions, which unfortunately aren’t available to GoPro MAX users.
While the MAX range still lets you create high-quality panoramic videos, it’s obvious that GoPro hasn’t updated them for a long time. Now the company is tasked with catching up with the competition and regaining leadership in the panoramic action camera market.
