Atari announced to conclude an agreement to purchase American publisher and developer Nightdive Studios. The Washington-based studio specializes in remastering classic games. The deal is expected to close in April.
The acquisition of Nightdive will cost Atari $10 million, half of which will be paid in company stock. The studio can earn an additional $10 million over the next three years based on “future results”.
With the acquisition, Atari will expand its intellectual property library, leveraging the KEX engine and Nightdive’s publishing capabilities to support its backward growth strategy.
“We know Atari shares our passion for retro games and our commitment to providing high-quality new games and original source-worthy remasters. We want to grow our business and capabilities and we have not found a better long-term partner than Atari.”said Nightdive executives Stephen Kick and Larry Kuperman.
Users did not support the Nightdive Tops craze. Under Notice from the studio’s Twitter account dominates judgmental and depressing comments. “Goodbye night diver. goodbye dreams”— summarizes TheToblin.
However, Kik itself believes in the best. According to him, the partnership with Atari will enable Nightdive release “Bigger and Better Remasters” And revitalize Games the studio could “only dream” (No one lives forever?).
Since its inception in 2012, Nightdive has released more than a hundred projects, and its next release will be a remake of the shooter System Shock. The game will be released on PC (Steam, GOG, EGS) on May 30th and later on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S.
