Gigabyte has introduced the Aorus Gen5 12000 NVMe SSD PCIe 5.0. The novelty offers read speeds over 12 GB/s.
At the end of last year, the manufacturer promised to release PCIe 5.0 SSD models capable of data transfer speeds of up to 12.5 GB/s. However, this year the company only released Aorus Gen5 10000 models with sequential read speeds up to 10,000 MB/s and write speeds up to 9500 MB/s.
Gigabyte today announced the new Aorus Gen5 12000 model, which according to the manufacturer’s internal tests has a reading speed of 12,391 MB/s and a writing speed of 11,691 MB/s. Reading speeds of 12,400 MB/s and writing speeds of 11,800 MB/s are officially specified for the novelty.
The Aorus Gen5 12000 SSD is only available in a 2TB capacity. It uses an 8-channel Phison PS5026-E26 memory controller, 232-layer 3D TLC NAND Flash chips and a 4GB LPDDR4-based buffer. The company notes that, among other things, it has optimized the support of DirectStorage technology for accelerating the loading of games in the new product.
Like the Aorus Gen5 10000 powertrain models, the Aorus Gen5 12000 model comes with a tall heatsink. Because of this, it is not compatible with all motherboards on the market. The manufacturer recommends using the new SSD with the Z790 Aorus Xtreme, Z790 Aorus Master, Z790 Aero G, X670E Aorus Xtreme and X670E Aorus Master boards.
