Sales of the mid-range GeForce RTX 4060 Ti graphics card in the 8 GB version will start tomorrow, May 24. The manufacturer positions the novelty for gaming in 1080p resolution and puts the price at $399. Distinguished foreign publications have prepared reviews of new articles. In this article we briefly analyze the main theses of these publications.

The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti is based on the AD106-350/351 GPU with the Ada Lovelace architecture, manufactured using TSMC’s enhanced 5nm process technology. The chip contains 4352 CUDA cores and operates at a frequency of 2.54 GHz. The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti is offered with 8GB and 16GB of GDDR6 memory with an effective frequency of 18GHz and a 128-bit bus, resulting in a throughput of 288GB/s.

The new product supports all technologies of GeForce RTX 4000 series graphics cards, including DLSS 3 scaling technology with frame generation, ray tracing and hardware support for the AV1 encoder. A version of the card with 16GB of storage and priced at $499 will go on sale in July.
The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti is capable of easily delivering 60 fps in any game at maximum quality settings and 1080p. According to TechPowerUp’s 25 gaming tests, the RTX 4060 Ti was able to match the performance of the previous generation Ampere GeForce RTX 3070 and the flagship of the Turing generation, GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. However, the performance increase from generation to generation, that is, compared to the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, was only about 12%, which is much less than the older models of GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards.
Compared to the competition, the new NVIDIA managed to overtake the Radeon RX 6700 XT by 8%, although it is equipped with 12 GB of memory. In gaming, the Radeon RX 6600 XT lagged the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti by an average of 37%. Note that AMD is preparing to release a new generation of mid-range graphics cards.
The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti also delivers many games in 1440p resolution, especially if you reduce some image quality settings. However, the presence of only 8 GB of memory in combination with a “narrow” 128-bit memory bus is already noticeable here.
As expected, games in the card with 4K resolution are not easy. Although the new product is faster than the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, the difference in performance is negligible. According to TechPowerUp, the difference is only a few frames per second. At the same time, the new card is inferior to the GeForce RTX 3070 and GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, but overtakes the Radeon RX 6700 XT. The same data is provided by Tom’s Hardware portal.
Ray tracing performance, which has always been a strength of GeForce graphics cards, is no exception in the new product. With ray tracing enabled, the performance of the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti is compared to the performance of the Radeon RX 6800 XT, which is two classes higher. In turn, the Radeon RX 6700 XT lags behind the NVIDIA graphics card by a significant 30% in ray tracing performance.
In the reference version, the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti hardly differs from the RTX 4070 Founders Edition model. We can only highlight some cosmetic changes in the form of different coloring of some elements of the cooling system housing. The card occupies only two expansion slots in a PC case and fits in most cases, including older ones. It should also be noted that some manufacturers will release even more compact versions of the graphics card, the cooling systems of which will include only one fan.
Reviewers praised the high energy efficiency of the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti. The novelty does not require a powerful power supply, since the power consumption of the graphics card is only 160 watts. The peak power consumption of the RTX 4060 Ti was 169 W in the test. In games, the card consumed about 152 watts on average, writes TechPowerUp. In such conditions, the presence of a 12 + 4-pin power connector for the reference version of the accelerator seems out of place. However, versions of the RTX 4060 Ti from NVIDIA partners will come with traditional 8-pin connectors.

Reviewers point out that there is nothing new in the reference version of the Founders Edition. The noise level of its fans does not exceed 29 dBA. At the same time, the card stays cold – the temperature of the graphics chip in the RTX 4060 Ti was 64 degrees Celsius in the tests, and it did not rise above 74 degrees Celsius at the hottest point of the GPU. The PNY version of the graphics card ran hotter as you can see in the image above.
Tom’s Hardware managed to increase the frequency of the GPU by 225MHz over the advertised value and the GDDR6 memory was overclocked by 1000MHz. In this mode, the card worked stably. The overclocked performance of the RTX 4060 Ti increased by an average of 7% in games at 1080p and maximum quality settings and by 8% at 1440p. The image below shows the overclock settings.
Overall, reviewers note that the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti does a great job playing games at 1080p. However, like the rest of the GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards, the new product was not without compromises. With the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, there’s no DisplayPort 2.0 support (the card comes with a DisplayPort 1.4a connector), support for only 8 PCIe 4.0 lanes, a slight increase in performance compared to the previous generation, and a price that pays for a Graphics card of this class could be lower. As TechSpot reviewers noted: “The RTX 4060 Ti will cost less than $300 for the 8GB version, while the 16GB version will cost $350“.
