Bloomberg edition reportedthat games industry veteran John Smedley will step down as head of Amazon Game Studios. Smedley headed up Amazon’s ten-year-old games division for six years and worked on various projects, but none of them ever made it to publication.

“After much thought, I decided it was time to try something new.”, Smedley wrote in an email to company employees obtained by Bloomberg. The letter also says that Andy Sites will be the new head of the department.
“John is a legend in the gaming industry and we are grateful for his contributions to Amazon Games over the past six years. His team remains focused on realizing their unannounced project. John is determined to stay until the team is fully transformed, after which he will look for something new.”said an Amazon spokesman.
The Amazon Game Studios division was founded in August 2012 and has not had much success so far. During the existence of the department, several projects were canceled. The studio managed to get the Crucible game to release, but it also closed a month after launch. Current and former Amazon Game Studios employees attribute the unit’s troubles to its former head, Mike Frazzini.
