Game Pass didnt stop Starfield from becoming the best selling game

Game Pass didn’t stop Starfield from becoming the best-selling game in the US in September

Upon release, Bethesda Game Studio reached the number of Starfield players “astronomic” Viewer coverage heights – 10 million. As it turns out, the space role-playing game is also selling well.

Circana analyst Mat Piscatella in his microblog reportedthat Starfield became the best-selling game in the US in September, even without taking into account the success of the upgrade to the Premium Edition (with Early Access).

Starfield was the best seller (in monetary terms) on PC and Xbox consoles, but as clarifies Piscatella, it was the PC version that showed itself the best. Both are also available on Game Pass.

The result achieved allowed Starfield to immediately take seventh place in the ranking of the main American bestsellers of 2023, beating Mortal Kombat 1 and the remake of Resident Evil 4. At the top of the list is still Hogwarts Legacy.

Microsoft has admitted in the past that using Game Pass within 12 months of adding it to the subscription negatively impacts game sales. The next 11 months for Starfield could therefore be less successful.

Sales of Starfield on Steam actually fell compared to the first few weeks: a month after release, the space role-playing game fell out of the top 10 and in the most recent chart (from October 10th to 17th) it is only in place 37.

Starfield was released on September 6th on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), Xbox Series X and S, and Game Pass (PC and Xbox). The game was supposed to release on the PS5, but Microsoft decided to make the project exclusive to the console.
