Ryzen 6000 (Rembrandt) processors start selling laptops that combine Zen 3+ cores with integrated Navi 2X graphics this week. AMD was the first to use the Navi architecture in “inserts” – before Ryzen chips only came with Vega graphics. Thanks to the Chinese side we can see the possibilities of the new integrated graphics Zhihuas well as YouTube channels Linus Tech Tips and PC world.
The Chinese resource presented an overview of the integrated graphics Radeon 660M and Radeon 680M as part of the Ryzen 5 6600H and Ryzen 7 6800H processors. In the first case, the GPU has 384 stream processors and works at a frequency of 1900 MHz, in the second – 768 stream processors and a frequency of 2200 MHz. In turn, the mentioned YouTube channels presented reviews of the Ryzen 9 6900HS processors, which also have Radeon 680M graphics, but with a frequency of 2400 MHz.
In several synthetic 3DMark tests conducted by a Chinese resource, the Radeon 680M graphics processor was faster than the entry-level discrete mobile graphics card NVIDIA GeForce MX450, not to mention the “embedding” of Intel Xe in the Core i5-12500H chip . Note that the younger accelerator Radeon 660M has also overtaken the latter, but not so much. PCWorld confirms this data: The Radeon 680M clearly outperformed other “applications” in 3DMark Time Spy.
As far as gaming performance goes, the built-in Navi-based GPUs performed well here. The Radeon 680M is reported to be an average of 71.39% faster than the previous generation AMD integrated graphics (in the Ryzen 9 5900HS processor), and the younger Radeon 660M accelerator overtakes it – by an average of 22.66% .
Compared to the integrated Intel Xe (96 EU) graphics in the Core i7-11370H, AMD’s innovations are ahead by a nose. The younger Radeon 660M is essentially on par with the competition, but the Radeon 680M outperforms them by more than 50% on average. The superiority of the Radeon 680M is also confirmed by Linus Tech Tips: In Forza Horizon 5, this GPU is almost twice as fast as the integrated Intel Xe graphics (96 EU).
Finally, it should be noted that the integrated Radeon 680M graphics card is on average about the same level as the discrete GeForce MX450 graphics card in various games. Somewhere ahead is the NVIDIA solution, and somewhere AMD – the difference is not too big. We add that due to the AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) scaling technology from the AMD “Embedding” you can get even better performance – it can even compete with the GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q.
I would also like to point out that as part of AMD Ryzen 6000 processors, Navi, like any integrated graphics, is highly dependent on the speed of RAM. The difference between the DDR5-4800 and LPDDR5-6400 configurations averages 8.33% in gaming and 15.42% in synthetic tests in favor of a system with faster memory. A laptop with LPDDR5-6400 memory took part in the tests described above.
In general, we note that the performance of the new generation AMD Radeon integrated graphics is quite sufficient for games with a resolution of 1080p. In many games it manages a pleasant 60+ FPS, if you activate AMD FSR you get even more. But to be fair, we note that in this case we tested powerful H and HS series processors, which are mainly used in gaming laptops that are already equipped with a discrete graphics card. But the Ryzen 7 6800U chip, which will be used in thin laptops, also has Radeon 680M graphics. And in this segment, strong “embedding” will be extremely useful. And one day AMD will probably release Rembrandt in the desktop segment, and given the lack of graphics cards, chips with Radeon 680M could turn out to be a very interesting option.
