Fans showed off a multiplayer mod for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which they can get $ 10,000 for.

Last November, the PointCrow blogger promised $ 10,000 to the creator of the multiplayer mod for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The task was taken over by a team of three modders led by Alex Mangue. Recently they presented a demo of cooperative gameplay.

According to the conditions PointCrow, the mod should be fully serviceable, free, support a game for two users anywhere on the map, and work without a server. Since mods are not officially supported on Wii U and Nintendo Switch, developers are allowed to use emulators. Also, those who want a reward must give the blogger early access a week or two before it is published.

Users found this task too difficult and the suggested amount was not large enough. PointCrow agreed to the latter but found that, despite the size of the reward, its proposal generated a great deal of interest from the modding community.

Mang already showed in November The first developments in videos – then he managed to force the game to take into account the positions of several users at the same time and synchronize the health of enemies. As the author explained, the mod works through CEMU (a Wii U emulator for PC) and combines data from multiple simultaneous sessions rather than adding new players directly. This method is called the simplest, but it is also not without its difficulties: you have to link a lot of systems and indicators (location of heroes, experience points, animations, etc.).

In a new video you can see three players traveling together on foot and on paragliders through Hyrule, fighting enemies, taking loot and climbing the tower. The modification is under development, so there are technical problems – for example, other users’ models move jerkily. The date of publication is not mentioned.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released for Nintendo Switch and Wii U in March 2017. Almost 27 million copies had been sold by September 2021. At the end of December 2021, the action-adventure game was voted the best console game in history by viewers of the Japanese TV channel TV Asahi, in which 50,000 people participated.

At E3 2019, Nintendo announced a sequel to the hybrid console, the name of which is kept secret due to the spoiler it contains. Last June, the company showed a trailer with gameplay snippets and confirmed a release in 2022. IGN is said to premiere in November.
