Epic Games is investing in a digital fashion apparel company

Epic Games and digital fashion company CLO Virtual Fashion have acquired shares from each other, the two companies announced on Thursday. The press release doesn’t say what the investment was, but it’s a clear sign of Epic’s interest in virtual fashion as another aspect of its growing ambitions in the metaverse.

CLO Virtual Fashion offers fashion design software already integrated with Epic’s Unreal Engine and a marketplace where virtual clothing designs are bought and sold. Epic won’t just be using the Unreal Engine for game development – the engine is becoming increasingly popular in the automotive world – so it makes sense that Epic would want industries like fashion to use the Unreal Engine as well.

Bringing high-quality digital fashion into real-time virtual worlds is challenging and can be a creative hurdle for digital fashion designers. It’s exciting to see how CLO’s Virtual Fashion solutions work together with the Unreal Engine to help designers across all industries create realistic and fashionable digital clothing.said Kim Libreri, CTO of Epic.

Epic isn’t the only company working with virtual fashion. Digital fashion company DressX started Clothing line in Roblox and earlier this year passed the second annual Metaverse Fashion Week in Decentraland. While the Metaverse hype seems to be waning, Metaverse advocates like Epic will likely continue to invest in virtual fashion to lure more users into their virtual worlds.
