Epic Games Confirms Apple Payout $ 6 Million By Court Order

After more than a year of litigation, Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers finally ruled in Apple v Epic Games.

The court ordered Epic Games to pay Apple a 30% commission on all Fortnite sales made by the company last year, bypassing the in-app purchases in the App Store. The fact of payment confirmed on Twitter, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney made a joke about paying the fine using Apple Pay.

Epic Games released the Fortnite iOS update in 2020, which introduced its own in-game content payment system. The new system was marketed as a cheaper way to purchase in-game items, since it did not require the payment of App Store fees.

The judge ordered Epic to pay Apple 30% of the $ 12,167,719 revenue generated by the company through in-app purchases in the App Store, plus 30% of the revenue generated from November 1, 2020 through the judgment date, in addition to interest …

In turn, Apple was directed to allow developers to offer in-app content for payment through third-party payment services, although it is not obligated to return Fortnite and Epic to the App Store.
