Publisher Bandai Namco and developer of the Japanese studio FromSoftware reported to release patch 1.09 for his fantasy open-world role-playing game Elden Ring on all target platforms. The main feature of the update was the appearance of ray tracing support in the game.

The creators talked about the fact that ray tracing will appear in Elden Ring after the November 2021 release, but the debut of the technology had to wait more than a year after the game’s premiere. “Rays” were activated only in versions for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X. Xbox Series S owners, judging by the description of the patch, were left without a novelty.
For those wanting to try the feature on PC, check out the Elden Ring system requirements for a game with ray tracing enabled (we’ll include a link to the usual ones for comparison):

Full demonstrations of ray tracing in Elden Ring have not yet arrived, but the technology of dataminer and modder Lance McDonald (Lance McDonald) is already there tried out and wasn’t impressed: ray tracing is only available for shading and shadows, which is mostly noticeable in open spaces, not indoors.
McDonald also noted that turning on ray tracing noticeably impacts framerate (the modder has an RTX 2070 Super graphics card). Failed to add support for intelligent image scaling (DLSS, FSR) to reduce the impact of ray tracing on game performance.

In addition to ray tracing, update 1.09 brought balance adjustments (including PvP exclusive) for various weapon types and a number of skills, as well as bug fixes. The full list of changes can be viewed at steam and further Bandai Namco official website.
Elden Ring debuted on February 25, 2022 on PC (Steam), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S. First anniversary sales exceeded 20 million copies. A paid add-on Shadow of the Erdtree will be released for the game in the foreseeable future. The developers are in no hurry to share the details of the addon.
