Former US President Donald Trump’s Truth Social will launch for iOS on February 21, US President Day, according to the App Store. Trump announced in October last year that he would be setting up his own social network.
Truth Social is being developed by Trump’s Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), which will be led by Devin Nunes after leaving the US House of Representatives in January.
Based on the screenshots from the App Store, Truth Social looks like a Twitter clone. The profile page shown in one of the screenshots looks pretty similar to what it does on Twitter. Users can post in the service messages called “Truth” with the option of attaching photos, links to videos and articles. They also have icons for replies, retweets, favorites, and shares. The equivalent of a retweet is apparently called “re-truth”.
Apparently, Trump didn’t accidentally choose a design like Twitter for his social network. For years, Twitter was Trump’s favorite platform to communicate his ideas until it was finally banned in January 2021. In October, Trump sued Twitter to restore his account.
Now when you visit the Truth Social website there is just a button to pre-order the app on the App Store and a form to fill out the waiting list. It’s also unclear whether the social network will be invite-only when it launches.
