Control publisher admits it was not “in the best possible way” to implement the free upgrade to PS5 and new Xbox versions

505 Games President Neil Ralley in an interview with the portal dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the publishing house Games Industry commented on the situation around the versions of Control for next-generation consoles.

As a reminder, 505 Games has provided a free upgrade of Control to editions for PS5, Xbox Series X and S exclusively for buyers of the Ultimate Edition, which was released a year after the initial release.

At one time, 505 Games explained the decision by the fact that the update method chosen by the company is available only for the same versions, and it turned out to be impossible to extend the offer to all players.

According to Rally, 505 Games was unable to navigate a new situation for the gaming industry and made a choice (which seemed right at the time), which subsequently created obstacles to the implementation of the free update function.

“It taught us a lot. Were we, as a publisher, able to handle that situation in the best possible way and explain our point of view to the audience? Maybe not. But we did our best to satisfy consumers … “ – said Rally.

Rally added that the company will try not to repeat the mistakes of the past: coming out in the near future on the new consoles Ghostrunner and Assetto Corsa Competizione will offer users a free upgrade.

Ghostrunner is expected to premiere on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S on September 28, while the Assetto Corsa Competizione for the current generation consoles will arrive on February 24, 2022.
