“Completely, absolutely, 100% unacceptable”: Ubisoft outraged gamers by announcing Black Friday discounts mid-game

Users of social networks and forums have noticed that Ubisoft has started testing new in-game advertising in older parts of Assassin’s Creed. The players did not welcome this move by the French company.

Posted by triddell24 from Reddit forum Video clip (see below) displays a pop-up window advertising a Black Friday discount on Assassin’s Creed Mirage when playing Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

The user encountered intrusive advertising while playing the purchased version of Odyssey for Xbox, but according to the comments, the situation can also be observed PlayStationand so forth PC – and not just in Odyssey, but at least also in Origins.

The banner appears when you try to open the in-game map directly during the game and has a Ubisoft interface – the platform operators’ advertising experiments have nothing to do with it.

I just received an in-game ad when trying to get to the map

This isn’t the first time Ubisoft has tried incorporating advertising into its games, but in the past it hasn’t interrupted actual gameplay. In addition to gameplay elements, suggestions for different types of boosters appeared.

Players greeted Ubisoft’s new initiative with hostility. “Completely, completely, 100% unacceptable.”writes Extrovert_Hermit. He was no less categorical Dice move: “So I won’t buy anything from Ubisoft anymore. I don’t pay to watch ads.”.

Such a move would not cause criticism in a free-to-play game where monetization is determined by the distribution model, but gamers do not want to see such solutions in $50-70 premium releases.
