ASUS ROG STRIX Z690-I Mini-ITX supports the new DDR5 RAM and the new PCIe 5.0 interface. The board has two slots for installing RAM modules, as well as a very unusual additional board with a heatsink located in the place where the M.2 connector for the NVMe drive should be.
This additional module, which actually consists of two boards, is connected to the motherboard via a proprietary connector and serves as a platform for installing two NVMe drives at once (one on each board), and also, apparently, contains elements of the built-in sound subsystem and various connectors, including for additional fans. ASUS uses a similar solution in the motherboard model ROG STRIX Z590-I GAMING WIFI, but there it consists of one board.
The release of motherboards based on the Intel Z690 chipset is expected on November 4. According to the available information, new 12th generation Intel Core processors will go on sale on the same day. Most recently, the ASUS ROG STRIX Z690-I Mini-ITX motherboard was listed in the database of some European retailers. One of them estimated the novik at 360 euros, the other at 451 euros (excluding taxes).
