Co-op horror The Outlast Trials releases in May, but there’s a nuance

Developers from the Canadian studio Red Barrels were there new press release announced the release date of their co-op horror The Outlast Trials and summarized the results of the closed beta test.

Keep in mind that The Outlast Trials was announced more than three years ago and should be released as early as 2021. Subsequently, the game was postponed to 2022, but this year the authors only managed to conduct the mentioned “beta”.

As has been announced, The Outlast Trials will be available on May 18th steam And Epic game store in Early Access format. The cost and content of the launch version will be announced later. The announcement was accompanied by a trailer with voice actors.

As for the results of the beta, during the test period (from October 28 to November 1, 2022), the participants (almost 1 million people applied) played for more than 35 years in total. The developers also revealed other indicators of the players:

  • 225,363 deaths;
  • 656,180 times players were immobilized;
  • 1,841,161 active character skills used;
  • Players spent 352,851,550 seconds (11 years) in night vision mode.

According to Red Barrels co-founder Philippe Morin, the closed beta participants provided helpful feedback and “very interesting data”used to improve the game.

The Outlast Trials is set in the Cold War era. Players take on the role of guinea pigs in Murkoff Corporation’s secret science lab, where they must pass a series of physical and mental tests.

The Outlast Trials is the third game in the Outlast series, but not a sequel to Outlast 2, but a cooperative offshoot. The developers have also promised to make a conditional Outlast 3, but so far the time hasn’t come.
