The stable ChromeOS 117 uses Google’s Material You design philosophy, which appeared in Android 12 back in 2021. The most noticeable change is to the Quick Settings section, which is now easier to read and select thanks to larger rectangular buttons that replace small round icons.
The notification panel in the bottom right corner of the screen has been updated to make it easier to access messages, emails and notifications from other applications. A simple transition to video calls has appeared in the calendar. Also worth mentioning are the new privacy indicators in the status area – they show when the camera and microphone are active.
ChromeOS 117 simplifies access to the technical characteristics of the Chromebook – processor model and RAM size. All you have to do now is search in the launcher. Previously, RAM size data was difficult to access and other information was only displayed through third-party applications.
To extend battery life, ChromeOS 117 received an adaptive charging system that keeps the battery level at 80% and uses machine learning algorithms to predict when the user will finish work to bring the charge level to 100% by then. Finally, the platform features new contrasting color schemes to help visually impaired people better navigate the interface.
