The Zeekr 009 minivan, which will debut in the first quarter of 2023, will be the first electric vehicle to use CATL Qilin batteries, and the Zeekr 001 sports car will be the first to receive a battery in the second quarter, which will provide the car with a range of 1000 km. CATL Qilin technology offers an energy storage density of 255 Wh/kg and a volume utilization rate of 72%. According to the developer, the energy storage density in Qilin battery packs is 13% higher than that of Tesla 4680 batteries with the same pack chemistry and dimensions.

Another advantage of the new generation of batteries is the quick charge from 10% to 80% in just 10 minutes and the ability to warm up for a hot start in just 5 minutes. 1000 km of range and fast charging in 10 minutes is almost all that most electric vehicle owners (even potential ones) expect from traction batteries.

CATL’s customers include global brands such as Volkswagen, BMW and Ford, but Asian manufacturers have also shown interest in Qilin technology, including Li Auto, Nezha Auto and Changan Auto – CATL owns the second-largest stake in the company.
