According to the company, with an average wind speed of 8.5 m/s (30.6 km/h), it will produce 80 GWh of energy per year. This amount of electricity “sufficient to supply 96,000 men”.

The trend towards building huge wind turbines can be explained by the fact that the majority of the installation costs are incurred by arranging the foundation on the seabed. The greater the output of the wind generator, the lower the proportion of semi-fixed costs per unit of electricity generated.

Compared to 13MW models, the higher capacity of the MySE18.X-28X will save the installation cost of 18 units required for a 1GW wind farm, which MingYang said would reduce the construction cost by $120,000-$150,000 per megawatt lowers. As a result, savings of 120-150 million US dollars could be achieved in the construction of such an object, but this accounts for only 1-2% of the total cost of the project. For reference, the cost of the 1.2GW Hornsea One wind farm with 7MW turbines is estimated at no less than US$5.153 billion.
