CD Projekt names next Witcher 4 for first time – studio insists it’s a caveat

CD Projekt RED’s next numbered The Witcher is codenamed Polaris, but the game’s confirmation folks managed to call it The Witcher 4. The Polish studio rejected this title option, however it seems that they use it themselves.

As noted by the portal PC gamerDuring yesterday’s financial report, CD Projekt, represented by its CEO Adam Kicinski, first spoke of Polaris as The Witcher 4.

The name comes from Kicinski’s response to a question about CD Projekt’s move to Unreal Engine 5. According to CD Projekt’s CEO, the team’s mastery of the engine won’t speed up Polaris’ development, but it won’t slow it down either.

“But on our next project, we think so [использование UE5] should improve production. This is one of the pillars of our strategy to release three major Witchers in six years, starting with Polaris, this is Witcher 4.”explained Kichinsky.

It’s worth noting that The Witcher 4 final game may not be called – the project is still in its early stages and the title is yet to be decided. Additionally, CD Projekt cited Kicinski’s words in a statement sent to PC Gamer “Reservation”.

“Polaris will be the first game in the new Witcher saga. The saga will consist of three games. The official name of this project is Polaris.”a CD Projekt spokesperson insists in a comment to PC Gamer.

Polaris will have to wait until at least 2025 (or even longer) for release. The project is a large-scale role-playing game in the open world. More than 150 CD Projekt RED employees are involved in the creation.
