A study conducted by Canalys suggests that the demand for portable computers running the Chrome OS operating system has fallen sharply in the global market.

It is estimated that around 4.9 million Chromebooks were sold worldwide in the first quarter of this year. This is a 59.7% decrease compared to the first quarter of 2021, when 12.2 million units were shipped.
The largest supplier of laptops running Chrome OS is Lenovo, with a Chinese company accounting for almost a quarter of the global market at 24.9%.

Acer comes second with a score of 23.1%. Bronze went to Dell – 17.9%. The top five Chromebook vendors also include HP and Asus, with 15.8% and 9.4%, respectively.
All other market participants together control 8.9%. Analysts believe demand for Chromebooks will pick up closer to the start of the new school season.
