Bloggers and media showed the unboxing of the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT – reviews will be published on December 12th

AMD has allowed specialized media and tech bloggers to publish unboxing materials for the latest Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT graphics cards, reports VideoCardz. However, browsers cannot yet publish information about their performance or ratings – that will have to wait until next week.

Most reviewers got their hands on the reference versions of the Radeon RX 7900 XT and Radeon RX 7900 XTX. Although at first glance it might appear that both cards are the same, upon closer inspection it becomes clear that this is not the case. The flagship Radeon RX 7900 XTX is slightly taller and longer than the Radeon RX 7900 XT. Also, video cards have a different RGB backlight configuration. However, both accelerators in the reference version have the same thickness of two expansion slots. In addition, both graphics cards received two 8-pin connectors for additional power supply.

The Radeon RX 7900 XT and Radeon RX 7900 XTX are also notorious for using different circuit boards. The flagship model is wider. The older version uses a board labeled D704, the younger uses a board labeled D702. Of course, in addition to the size of the circuit boards, graphics cards also differ in VRM power supply subsystems. However, more detailed information on this subject will be known after the new items can be dismantled.

A direct comparison shows that the new generation of Radeon graphics cards is significantly more compact than the GeForce RTX 4090 and GeForce RTX 4080 reference models, which themselves are considered compact solutions within the new NVIDIA accelerator series compared to non-reference versions.

It is curious that among the media only one source received a non-reference model of an AMD graphics card based on the RDNA 3 architecture. The British edition of Overclock3D shared a photo of the XFX Radeon RX 7900 XTX MERC 310 model, images from which recently flashed.

According to the German publication HardwareLUXX, full independent reviews of the Radeon RX 7900 XT and Radeon RX 7900 XTX will appear from December 12, a day before the actual start of sales of new products.

Keep in mind that the flagship Radeon RX 7900 XTX reference version is priced at $999, while the younger Radeon RX 7900 XT was priced at $899. The former uses a full-fledged Navi 31 GPU with 6144 stream processors and is equipped with 24 GB of GDDR6 memory. The second is based on a “slimmed down” Navi 31 GPU with 5376 stream processors and 20 GB of GDDR6 memory.
