Battlefield 2042 design director to leave DICE for another company

Insider Tom Henderson in the material for the portal Video Games Chronicle (VGC) announced the imminent departure of the DICE studio head of its design department Fawzi Mesmar (Fawzi Mesmar).

Mesmar joined DICE a little over two years ago, having previously spent six months as head of King (Candy Crush series). In the Swedish studio, the design director has had a hand in Star Wars Battlefront 2, Battlefield V and Battlefield 2042.

In a letter to DICE employees seen by VGC, Mesmar admitted that he had discussed with the studio management his successor even before the release of Battlefield 2042, but he considered his decision to be the best after the release of the game.

“Another company made me an offer that I couldn’t refuse. They were kind enough to wait for me until graduation [Battlefield 2042]… It was extremely important for me to be with the team in this historic achievement. “– wrote Mesmar.

According to the letter, Mesmar will continue to work in Stockholm, with his last day at DICE on November 26th. An Electronic Arts spokesman confirmed the departure of the design director at VGC’s request.

It seems that the matter will not be limited to Mesmar alone. On my microblog Henderson reportedthat a number of other employees will be leaving DICE. At the same time, the studio is actively hiring new people – so many that would be enough for an entire division.

Battlefield 2042 was released on November 19 on PC (Steam, Origin, Epic Games Store), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S. The game is going to be actively finalized post-release updates – Mesmar’s departure will not affect these plans, he said.
