Approximate US prices and specifications for Intel Alder Lake-S processors published

Yesterday, network whistleblower momomo_us released expected prices for Alder Lake-S processors from European retailers. Later, the same source found information about the cost of the same chips from one of the American sellers. In addition, the characteristics of the processors were also indicated there. The information is unofficial, so it should be taken with a certain degree of skepticism.

According to the revealed data, the new series of Intel Alder Lake-S chips will be significantly more expensive than the current generation of Rocket Lake-S processors. For example, the flagship Core i9-12900K is priced at $ 705 by one of the sellers. By comparison, the current generation flagship model, the Core i9-11900K, can be found for $ 549. The Core i9-12900KF processor without an integrated core is estimated by the American retailer at $ 645. It is noted that, in general, Intel’s new products will be more expensive than competitors from AMD. The latter may need to adjust the price of only the flagship model Ryzen 9 5950X, which is almost $ 100 more expensive than Intel’s future flagship.

Intel Alder Lake-S processors use a hybrid architecture of two types of computing cores: high-performance P-Cores (Golden Cove architecture) and energy-efficient E-Cores (Gracemont architecture). Only the first ones have support for Hyper-Threading technology, so the number of computational threads in the new processors will be quite unusual, as you can see in the table below.

The main features of Alder Lake-S processors will be support for DDR4 and DDR5 RAM and the new PCIe 5.0 interface. In addition, the new chips will receive twice the amount of cache memory of the 3rd level. For example, in the same model Core i5-12600K it will be 16 MB, and in the flagship model Core i9-12900K – as much as 30 MB. 12th Gen Core processors will require motherboards with the new LGA 1700 Socket, based on Intel’s new 600-series chipset family.

The announcement of a new series of Intel processors is expected on October 27. The company has planned a special event for this day. According to the latest rumors, the company will initially present only the performance models of the new series. They should appear on sale before the end of this year. The rest of the Alder Lake models are expected to be announced early next year.
