This year, Apple is expected to announce the next generation of smartphones – the iPhone 14 (unofficial name). TrendForce analysts have released information that these devices will be equipped with a new main camera with higher resolution.
Apple has increased the resolution of the main camera of its smartphones several times, but the last time it was a long time ago. When switching from iPhone 4 to iPhone 4S, the value rose from 5 to 8 million pixels and when switching from iPhone 6 to iPhone 6s from 8 to 12 million pixels.
This time we’re talking about quadrupling the number of pixels. According to TrendForce, the main camera of the iPhone 14 Pro will be equipped with a 48-megapixel sensor.
It should be noted that over 50% of all smartphone cameras manufactured last year had 13 to 48 million pixels. In second place in terms of prevalence with a share of over 20% were solutions with 49-64 million pixels. “Bronze” went to 12-megapixel products: this segment is dominated by Apple and Samsung devices.
With the conversion of the iPhone 14 Pro to a 48-megapixel main camera, the proportion of 12-megapixel sensors will, according to TrendForce experts, decrease significantly and drop to 15 percent in 2022.
