Apple is preparing an updated Mac mini on M2 and M2 Pro chips, but without a redesign

The new version of the Mac mini-computer will replace the previously assumed M1 Pro processor with more modern M2 and M2 Pro chips, Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman said in an author’s newsletter a.

According to Mr Gurman, Apple has previously been working on an updated Mac mini on the M1 Pro chip – the machine was due to debut this year, but now the project has been cancelled. Instead, the company will release another one, and there are two versions of the device: with new generation processors M2 and M2 Pro. At the same time, the expert is certain that the appearance of the mini-computer will remain the same.

He also clarified that the Mac mini based on the M2 processor has already received the model index J473, and the version with the more powerful M2 Pro chip is codenamed J474. The new chip has a heterogeneous architecture with 8 powerful and 4 economical cores. But the older M2 Max or Ultra processors in the family do not use in Mac mini, Save them for Mac Pro series computers, add resource sources 9to5Mac.
